Mission Accomplished: Global Clean Energy Congress 2011 Advances Energy Solutions for Canadian Business

By Anouk Kendall, President | WADE Canada

An enormous milestone was passed last month: after fours of planning and a tireless year of coordination, WADE Canada’s management team co-organized the inaugural Global Clean Energy Congress 2011 (GCEC) in Calgary, three days of excellent networking opportunities and discussions for the clean energy industry. A global platform to demonstrate, discuss and debate clean energy strategies and technologies, the event helped attendees and delegates move their companies towards a cleaner tomorrow.

Business deals were made amongst exhibitors, presenters and 2,000 attendees clearly illustrating Canada’s growing commitment to clean energy.

The biggest take away for our business was how we might help to grow the clean tech clean energy community in Alberta.

I enjoyed the mix of technical, financial and government discussions and presentations. Also, the opportunity to present the concept, viability and environmental impact of District Energy is always enjoyable.

Bringing together leading experts from around the world in the field of clean energy technologies and innovation, Global Clean Energy Congress 2011 attracted participants from more than 20 countries to network and learn about the clean energy industry.

The highlight for me was the international perspective; it truly came across as a global conference. As an educational institution, it helps to confirm where the bigger picture is at which allows us to keep this perspective in mind as we progress with training and education. We must be looking 3-5 years ahead.

Featured presentations included two major announcements from GE Canada/NRGreen and Virgin Earth Challenge; keynote speakers like Jeremy Rifkin from the Foundation on Economic Trends, Ian Goldin of Oxford University, Judy Fairburn of Cenovus; and concluded with an inspiring panel of young and seasoned professionals challenging us all to be leaders in the clean energy revolution.

The majority of Congress participants reported that the event exceeded their expectations in terms of increased awareness of companies and products, introductions to new products and services, personal connections with current customers/suppliers, meeting new clients, closing sales at the show, and generating leads,

I was featured on Global Television five times, which was great! To me the show shows that WADE Canada is being very successful at business-to-business connections.  Several WADE executive introduced me to potential partners, which was equally great.

The majority of Congress participants reported that the event exceeded their expectations in terms of the following: increased awareness of companies and products; introductions to new products and services; personal connections with current customers/suppliers; meeting new clients; closing sales at the show; and generating leads.

Nearly a third of conference delegates reported that the GCEC was better than other conferences they have attended and 85% would recommend the congress to others.

My favourite presentation was by keynote speaker and author, Jeremy Rifkin [President of Foundation on Economic Trends]. As an exhibitor, the volume and quality of people through the exhibit was excellent; great exposure, I made good contacts and will be back next year.

WADE Canada is bridging the gap between market opportunities and optimum technology solutions – Global Clean Energy Congress 2011 is thrilled to be the catalyst for sector growth into 2012 and beyond.

What brought us together at GCEC is our common interest in the production, management and storage of clean energy and its economic diversification potential. What keeps us together are trusting relationships built on open and honest discussion and realistic expectations as we navigate through the clean energy revolution.
