Lakeland College Receives $2.3 million From Federal Government for Renewable Energy Development

Lakeland College in Vermilion Alberta, was successful in receiving $2.3 million over 5 years from the College and Community Innovation Program (CCI) to expand and support applied research and innovation activities linked to its programs in renewable energy technologies. CCI was established by the Government of Canada in 2007, and is a collaborative initiative between the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
The program enables colleges to innovate and develop or expand research transfer activities in their communities through partnerships with local companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises.

Lakeland College joins the ranks of 28 other Canadian Colleges, which have received this 5-year award, to help initiate their work on integrating renewable energy and conservation technologies to support project development and applied research work which will benefit several sectors within Alberta and Saskatchewan, specifically oil and gas, agriculture, trades and business.
